At the moment a U.S. Naval ship lets go its last mooring line and leaves the pier, a long blast is blown on the ship’s whistle and the word is passed, “Underway–shift colors.” Immediately, the ensign at the flagstaff and the jack at the jackstaff are hauled down smartly and the steaming ensign is run up to the gaff. There is a change not only of flags, but also of crew mentality…they are prepared to be underway and get on about the business of what the warship is created to do. As we prepare to cast off our lines and get underway, we are ready to get on about our business of living, adventuring and learning new things. We hope you’ll join us!
