La Cruz for the Holidays

We last left you in La Paz, Mexico, which is on the Baha peninsula side of the Sea of Cortez. We made our way southeast to Banderas Bay and the small fishing village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. We spent about 6 weeks there a couple of years ago and just loved it, so it was a treat to return and see that things were back in full swing post-pandemic. La Cruz is a special little town with amazing food (delicious but not expensive) and lots of live music. Most of all the people there are so warm and friendly. There is a beautiful marina and a large anchorage just outside the marina where 30-40 boats are anchored at any one time. The cruising community there is just phenomenal – there always seems to be someone willing and able to help out a fellow cruiser. There are many opportunities to join social activities or just hang out and enjoy the scenery. And the sunsets there – amazing! La Cruz is about a 45-minute cab ride from Puerto Vallarta, so I took the opportunity to go see my favorite hairdresser in Mexico – Eddie at Eddie’s Hair Salon and Barber Shop in the heart of PV. Meanwhile, Mike attended a sushi-making class at the marina and did quite well on his first try!

As it was nearing the holidays, my mama heart was feeling the need to see my kids, so Mike was gracious enough to hang out at the boat with Henry while I took a quick trip to Houston to see Jordan, Koren and Dylan for Christmas. Houston just happened to be having a major cold spell while I was there, so I had to do a little shopping for some warmer clothes. Don’t you just hate it when that happens? Ha! The time flew by, but I was so grateful to get to spend a little time with the kids and be in the good old USA! As a bonus, Santa delivered lots of boat parts that we needed, so I was able to bring those back to Mike, and even a brand new spearfishing gun for him. It wasn’t a Red Ryder BB gun, but probably the next best thing!

While I was gone to Houston, Mike and Henry enjoyed the local festivities. Mike even got to volunteer at a turtle nursery and participate in a turtle release!
